Happy New Year ~ Healthy Goals & Boundaries: Biblical Principles for Real Change

Healthy Goals & Boundaries: Biblical Principles for Real Change

As we step into a brand-new year, many of us fall into the same routine—declaring lofty New Year’s resolutions, only to abandon them weeks or even days later. Statistics show that roughly 80% of people give up on their New Year’s resolutions by February, with some studies suggesting that only 8% successfully achieve their goals. Why does this happen? Often, it’s because these resolutions are rooted in short-term thinking, lack accountability, and fail to align with deeper values.

In my group coaching program, "Walk with Jesus, Grow with Purpose," we’re throwing out the “New Year’s Resolution” mindset and instead focusing on setting healthy, God-centered goals and boundaries that last all year long—and beyond.

Why "New Year’s Resolutions" Fail

  1. Lack of Clarity: Many resolutions are vague, like "get fit" or "save money," without specific, actionable steps.

  2. No Accountability: Without a support system, it’s easy to quit when motivation fades.

  3. Unrealistic Expectations: We aim for perfection rather than progress, leading to burnout and frustration.

The Bible offers a better approach. Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, "In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps." Setting goals rooted in God’s guidance allows us to focus on purposeful and sustainable growth.

Healthy Goals: Start with Biblical Principles

In our program, we use the Shine Structure to guide goal-setting. Here’s how you can set healthy goals that align with God’s will:

  1. Seek God First (Matthew 6:33): Pray about your goals and align them with His purpose for your life.

  2. Be Specific: Instead of saying, “I want to grow spiritually,” set clear steps like reading a chapter of the Bible daily or memorizing one verse per week.

  3. Set Boundaries to Protect Your Goals: Saying “yes” to God often requires saying “no” to distractions. Matthew 5:37 reminds us to “let your ‘Yes’ be yes, and your ‘No,’ no.”

  4. Pursue Progress, Not Perfection: Celebrate small victories and trust that God is working through your efforts.

Accountability: The Key to Lasting Change

Accountability is one of the biggest differences in our group coaching program. Unlike resolutions made in isolation, our community provides:

  • Daily Encouragement: Share your progress, struggles, and wins in our group chat.

  • Shine Sisters/Bright Bros: Unique accountability partnerships that foster deeper connections and support.

  • Biblical Motivation: Weekly live calls that inspire and refocus us on God’s truth.

  • Guided Steps: Practical, biblically-based lessons on skills like Buffering, Processing Pain, and Setting Boundaries.

As Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, “Two are better than one... If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” Our community is here to lift you up, pray with you, and walk alongside you in your journey.

Boundaries that Honor God

Healthy boundaries are essential for honoring your goals and your faith. This includes:

  • Learning to say, “Let me pray about it,” before committing to new responsibilities.

  • Protecting your time with God by prioritizing daily devotionals.

  • Recognizing that saying “no” can be an act of obedience to God’s will.

Ditch the "Resolution" Mindset: Join Us for Lasting Change

This year, instead of chasing fleeting resolutions, join a community committed to real, lasting transformation. Together, we’ll set healthy goals, maintain godly boundaries, and hold each other accountable through biblical principles and encouragement—all year long.

Registration is now open for the next round of "Walk with Jesus, Grow with Purpose," starting January 4, 2025. Let’s walk in faith, grow with purpose, and shine for God’s glory in 2025!
